How to deal with fear ?

Recommended Posts

Is fear an emotion?  And how to transcend fear? How to become fearless ?

I'm experiencing a huge fear from facing the brutality of life...it's like I'm a child that doesn't know how to grow the fuck up . But I'm also talking about fear of what might happen to me.. I might get cancer ..I might die in a car accident..I might go to hell after I die and other such shitty fearful thoughts.

Fear is fundamentally rooted in discordant thought, simply throw those thoughts away.

If you wanna be dramatic you can scream "go away!" out loud and watch as they disappear 😁

I've heard the emotional scale works for this too if you wanna gradually climb out of this fear funk.

I hope this doesn't sound like victim-blaming..but I don't think that I have control over thoughts . Thoughts just arise unintentionally.

How exactly to let go of a discordant thought?

I'm actually going through the same.

Do you have an Indian group anywhere online where they discuss issues and problems and stuff like a community etc? Let me know and include me if you know..

So basically I'm an autistic INFJ BPD sigma Pisces female with anger and CPTSD issues. Wow wow.

My plate looks full. I Couldn't have been weirder than that. Now I get why I'm so idiosyncratic.

Letting it go by:

-Focusing on something else.

-Screaming "begone!" At it and shifting focus if you wanna feel more empowered.

-Meditation

@Orb thanks . Any more methods? Those are great but I don't think they are enough .

If a thought persists ..like "I might die " and when I no matter trying to focus on some thing else it keeps coming back ..what to do?

Keep on letting it go as it arises. Dont make it into a big deal, the momentum will slow down for that thought. Feel the empowerment that comes from seeing you CAN let go of thoughts that dont feel good by shifting focus.

The thing the "devil" hates the most is being ignored, he has no power! Non-Reactivity and shifting focus to more aligned thoughts / activities is key.

Yes.

Feel it fully.

Like checking to see if there really is a monster in the closet. Seems like there is only if you don’t check. Whenever you check, it’s empty.

The rope only seems like a snake from a far. The closer you get the more it’s seen to be a rope.

What is it you’re facing & referring to as ‘the brutality of life’?

Its difficult for me to wrap my mind around this ..because like I said .."You can let go of a thought " is equivalent to saying  "thought can let go of thought " . Since "you " is a thought . And its like a runaway train without a driver . The illusion of free will . I'm not In the driver seat of my life .

Sometimes it's more brave to run away.

And fear of death is actually allure of death.

Elaborate more please.

I understand. And that was Orb's point.  You can check once .but then the thought arises again ..so I check again and there is no boogeyman..but then the thought /fear arises again . Its akin to OCD .

Studying ..the constant struggle against addiction ..the struggle that comes with maturing from a boy to a "real man"..work..job ..taking responsibility of my life . And also we as men are doomed to suffer . I kinda wish I was born a woman.  They've got it way easier lol.

Also some existential fears that I mentioned regarding death and hell and these sort of things.

The ego interprets fear as "I am afraid/fearful" or "I have fear(s) of this and that". That interpretation holds fear in place because it isn't acknowledged as guidance.

Then what follows is that it seems like you could not have fear by somehow becoming fearless. That's a hopeless attempt / interpretation, a hamster wheel which will never actually get you anywhere, but it's very useful for manipulation such as:

Fear is how certain thoughts feel, and everyone would feel the exact same fear about the same thoughts. You don't stop feeling the same fear (guidance) about the thoughts, ever. The fear only ends when the thought isn't believed anymore.

The thoughts / beliefs about death of which you experience the guidance of fear will never not feel like that guidance. Cuz the fear is telling you the thoughts are not true.

"Fear of death is actually allure of death" points out that death is not real, but it seems to have reality, a role and a real function because the ego actually wants it to be real. Death is the denial of eternal life. Eternal life would be too good to be true, according to the ego. It can't bear the light, and so it buries it's head into the sand, coming up with nonsense like birth and death, limited life.

There must be an effortless way.

When you feel fear, run away like a little bitch who will never be a true man and win life, and feel the guidance of unworthiness and insecurity of the thought "little bitch who will never be a true man and win life".

There must be an effortless way.

Distract yourself from the thoughts freely. Any distraction is good. Watching TV, scrolling through internet, eating fast food, even porn or masturbation.
