Came across this quote from Ramana Maharshi:

 

"O mind, it is not wise for you to come out [in the form of thoughts]; it is best to go within. Hide yourself deep within the Heart and escape from the tricks of Maya, who tries to upset you by drawing you outwards."

 

What are examples of such tricks?

 

If you aren't outrageously happy, you're functioning at a fraction of your potential.

Essentially, believing / attachment, thoughts / things.

 

Believing peace, happiness, love, completeness, fullness, wholeness will be in or happen in a future as a result of thinking, doing, changing, accomplishing, becoming, achieving. 

 

Seeking external validation, approval, confirmation. 

 

Likewise, believing thoughts such that there is a past and dwelling such as regret, resentment, anamosity. 

 

Comparative thoughts about separate selves, inferiority, inadequacy, etc. 

 

Believing concepts, justifications & rationalizations / not  acknowledging underlying emotions.
