I literally just cannot quit nicotine.

Been using snus/nicotine pouches ever since teenage years. It's pretty much chain using by this point, it's the very last thing before falling asleep and the first thing after waking up.

It's so expensive I pretty much just can't continue using. Also would like to be without it, to just be free and it would probably feel better to not poison the nervous system all day every day.

But I can't quit. I tried again yesterday/today and the reaction to not using the substance is just not reasonable. I literally go quite insane to the point of suicidal thoughts. The mind goes in such weird place where thoughts go round the same thing over and over. Expression, the scale, meditation, none of it helps.

The mind does this wave movement where at some point there's clarity and feeling better. But then it spirals and hits lows that I can't even describe. Quite litetally going apeshit level despair, powerlessness, rage.

That's pretty much it. I literally just cannot quit and that's true. And I'm not even open to really question any of these thoughts and I hate you if you come here pointing out that some god damn belief or thought needs to be questioned or whatever the fuck cause it won't help and I won't be able to let those thoughts go.

This is where it's at. What now?

The only perhaps positive step I can reasonably think of taking is to start using a product with less nicotine per serving and lowering the dose bit by bit.

Who do you want to be cool for?

Used to, for fellow teenagers.

Now it's just embarrassing.

Are those the words expressing the desire of being free or an explanation of why it's not possible for you?

Desire of being free and despair and powerlessness and rage and discouragement and blame.

That it's now embarrassing is just more of the same though, right? Putting crappy thoughts of how other people see me above feeling.

You don't want to pick and choose emotional guidance, that it is all guidance is already the freedom. Freedom is already the case. I can drive on the rumble strip all the way down the interstate if I want.

@Blessed2 hi man.

I didn't smoke for the past two weeks . I have made up my mind . I don't want anything to do with this habit anymore . I decided to quit cold turkey. I used to  smoke about half a pack a day for 5 years. But I've made the decision. Enough is enough . I'm scared shitless of what kind of damage I did to my lungs and to my body as a whole in the last 5 years . I started smoking in high school to impress girls . Didn't know its gonna escalate to a hardcore addiction similar to drug addiction.  I'm not joking. This shit is as addictive as hardcore drugs (although I never touched drugs like heroin.. I smoked weed once and it just made me feel dizzy and almost drunk and brain fog ).

I expect by the end of 2024 I will be completely smoke-free and finally liberated from the chains of this habit .

Here's what you gotta do :

1-Spend a few days getting mentally prepared to quit. Really getting to the mindset that this shit Is a life and death situation. Its extremely important to quit .

2-Understand that you can NEVER EVER use nicotine or cigarettes again. Not a single cigarette.. not a single puff. When you strart "pussying around "with yourself on how it's okay to smoke a little bit you  must  remember there is no such thing as 'just one' or 'just a drag'. Smoking will not make you happy. You Just need to accept this as the truth.

3- Be happy about quitting. I'm not making a sacrifice... I'm kicking an addiction. I should focus on what I gain from quitting not what i lose. I will lose the temporary high that I get from smoking .but I will gain safety from lungs  cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

4-The trickiest part is getting in the right mindset... but once I'm there it's golden. Nicotine will be completely out of your system in 3 days of quitting ... after that you will be getting over the psychological addiction. You must find something to distract yourself with .like  a lot of walks (i eat a whole lot unfortunately for my waist line so walking can burn those belly fats ).

You absolutely MUST find an alternative.  And here I need help as much as you . Lets think together...What could be the alternative?  It can't be something unhealthy.  I thought of video games ,junk food ,porn, sugar (candy)etc..but in my view these are also unhealthy. Not sure if they are as terrible as smoking but I need a healthy alternative.

Any thoughts ?

Keep smoking or vaping.

The same seeking mechanism that has you wanting nicotine is the same one that creates a new goal of quitting. It's just more distraction.

When and if you do quit it'll be effortless because you won't do anything at all.

Not at all.

@Orb you are mixing relative practical advice with spirituality.

I'm sorry btw for how i worded it

I'm just saying words, whether you interpret them as spiritual advice or practical advice or whatever is on you.

Stop it.  Smoking causes cancer . OP needs no nihilistic pseudo-spiritual platitudes.  He needs serious practical solutions. I know because I'm also struggling with smoking . Please think twice before you handwave serious practical problems with spiritual bypassing.

I thought you quit already? You don't smoke yet you still talk about struggling with it? This is the same mechanism at play I mentioned earlier. Distraction.

You're still not truly free from nicotine if you have to battle yourself so hard just to not smoke a cigarettee. And take responsibility for whatever unfolds in your experience.

I used a substance for a while then one morning I put it all in a bag and threw it out. Done.

Yes that's true . But I expect it gets easier as time goes by and as I avoid the triggers aka .the stuff that makes me crave a cigarette like stress or sleeping deprivation or stuffing myself with food etc

I actually kinda agree. 😄

Thought attachment is sooo tricky. And fast. Way faster than me.

I'm feeling the bit-by-bit plan. Lowering the dose per serving by 2mg every 2 weeks. If that works, I'd be free in December.

It actually does feel kind of better to use a smaller amount. Like I'm taking a real step toward freedom and health. A step I can take, right now.
