But what the Self points to is . . . I can't spoil It. 💀 Edited June 3 by Joseph Maynor Quote Mention 💬 🗯️🤍
Joseph Maynor Posted June 6 Posted June 6 (edited) It's interesting to see how the issue of karma is treated in Advaita Vedanta: Here's a quote from Adi Shankara: ”For a man who, in the absence of the perception of the non-Self, sees the unity of the Self, there arises no desire, since objects of desire do not exist. Besides, since desire cannot arise with regard to oneself, owing to non-difference, there ensues liberation consisting in existence in one’s own Self. From this also follows, that knowledge and karma are contradictory. And just because of this conflict, knowledge does not depend on karma so far as emancipation is concerned.” — Adi Shankara, Commentary on Taittiriya Upanishad, Pg. 279. Knowledge in this context means Jnana or the highest knowledge which is knowledge that Atman (Pure Consciousness) = Brahman (Highest Reality). You can see how karma is not seen as relevant for Shankara after Self-realization due to the "[A]bsolute cessation of the world." Id. at 279. Edited June 6 by Joseph Maynor Quote Mention 💬 🗯️🤍
